Smart Ventilation System

Ventilation system for cold environment

A smart device was specially designed to handle the cold environments where the conservation of heat energy is important during the winters. The device could monitor air quality and control airflow within close limits. The balance is maintained between the cold air from outside and the heat inside the building and in the caravans.

TECHNOLOGY CHOICE

After conducting extensive research on various technology stacks, we decided to use C/C++ for programming the firmware and create the GUI for the product using C#. The framework used is the Atmel Software Framework (ASF). For communication we used Bluetooth, I2C, SPI, USB, HID, LIN. The sensors we used are pressure, temperature, air quality and CO2.

THE CHALLENGE

A smart valve can be quite expensive at first, with a starter kit costing around $200 and other valves costing upwards of $600.
It also requires the use of a smart thermostat to function properly.
If the air is changed more often than necessary, it causes over-drying and wasted energy.

SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION

Intelligent algorithms were developed and logic was applied programmatically. These algorithms were used to control the airflow to maintain the balance between the airflows. Our main focus was working on the electronics and firmware part throughout the project.
